In the year 2012, a portion of the Huron Road in Kitchener, Ontario was improved with the help of Nilex’s precast concrete retaining walls (MESA). The primary challenge was to reinforce the wetland in the area where the road was to be improved and Nilex’s MESA retaining wall was the perfect solution.
Load
was equally distributed
The
precast concrete blocks in Nilex’s MESA retaining walls were combined with the
TensarTriAx Geogrid TX160 to reinforce the wetland. This unique combination
increased the capacity of the terrain to bear load as the interlocked system
helped distribute load equally across the terrain.
Low
absorption rate of water and moisture
Wetlands
are not ideal for concrete blocks as they absorb the water in the terrain and
disintegrate over time. However, the precast concrete blocks for retaining walls used in MESA have a low absorption rate
making them ideal for wetlands.
Geogrids
resistant to corrosion
Wetlands
are ideal for corrosion because of the amount of moisture/water found on the
terrain. In addition to concrete blocks with low absorption rates, Nilex’s precast
block retaining walls (MESA) consist of HDPE geogrids that are resistant to
erosion.
